I thought this would be a simple thing, but not getting this to work.

I'm doing a mail merge using Word 2007, that part is fine, the problem I have is in the Word docx that I'm doing the mail merge from I need to insert a link to a external picture that lives on a web page, such as:

<img src="" >

Any ideas on how to do this?

    Just to claify,

    You said that you only need to insert a link.  This can be done by right clicking and selecting "hyperlink."  Leave the link to: as "Existing File or Web Page" and the type the address of the image in the Address: line.  You can then put "click here to view image" or some variation of in the "text to display:" field.

    However, if you meant that you need Word to pull the image from the Internet and display in the document for you...

    sorry.  cut myself off.  try clicking the picture on the insert tab and in the file name: field type in the path to your image.  when you click insert, it should pull the image from the server.

    No, I know how to add a link and display and all that.

    What I need is to put in a mg src=..... link so when I use mail merge with the doc and it is sent to all the users, I want the email to pull the image when the email is opened, not having someone click on it as a link.

    This is a odd job, long story but we are in the process of getting all users off mail clients and on to Outlook, we have used many ways from server logs to vbs scripts pushed to users machines to detect the mail client actually being used but still not getting 100% info on a some.

    So this is just another option, as doing this, when a email is received by the user and the mail is opened and it goes and gets the jpg file, the http logs shows the retrieve and the mail client being used.

    That's all been tested and works, I just need to figure out how to send a email to a list of users using MS mail merge (have done that many times and works fine) I just need to add a link as described to the message so it will pull the image and put a entry in the logs.

    Hope that makes sense?

    I've already tried you other suggestion, but that does not do what I need, yes it will pull a copy of the image to the word doc but that will not help for what I need. I need it to pull the image when it's opened by each user when a mail is sent to them as explained above.
