SQL Server Licencing

Hi All,

I am planning to do database mirroring for our production systems.

I wanted to know more about licencing in database mirroring scenario.

The questions is I have dual processor machine on my principal database server, so I need to buy licence for two processor for SQL Server 2005. Do I need to buy licence for the secondary server as well ?

Can somebody point me to any links or any other article which is helpful ?

Thanks in advance.

you don't need to purchase license for both the processor, but need to purchase for secondary server, have a look at

I further study link of Mr. Pinal Dave at

and found

A license is required for each physical or virtual processor accessed by an operating system environment running SQL Server. If SQL Server is connected with many clients and users from Internet this is good option to pursue.

In Simple, Mirroring requires SQL Server licenses for both the Principal and the Mirror. With fail-over clustering, you do not have to pay for the SQL Server license(s) for the passive node.

Hope this helps you out:
