I have a new installation of SBS 2003 R2 that slows down then hangs the mail system at 4:30 every morning, any suggestions?
The entire system works ok after restarting, but every morning at 4:30am the system slows down, then stalls the mail system. Terminal service stalls. After restart, the mail system typically is very slow for about an hour, then works ok for the rest of the day.
The only unusual thing about the system is the size of two mail boxes. The individuals had several Gig of saved email (mostly in tech drawing attachments from customers)

The server is a quad core with 4Gb RAM and 80Gb partition C: 150Gb partition D:
I set the max size of the Priv database in the registry to 70Gb.
This started happening after importing the previously saved individual email from an older SBS2000 system at each workstation. There are 7 users. This client has 2 users with a lot of saved email with big attachments that was added to the mailbox of each.
Currently I'm not on site, and once the system settles down from the restart (done by the customer) this morning, I'll gather whatever info you guys need.

The server eventually straightened itself out, by performing the online defrags. However, using the info supplied, I was able to move the maintenance schedule back a couple hours so it completed before the shift starts and incoming mail begins.
