Windows 7 RC1 Installation Problem

Hi,

Not sure if anyone has come across this yet. I'm trying to install Windows 7 RC1 onto a Lenovo X60s through a USB DVD drive. The problem i have though is once the original setup screen comes up and i click on Install Windows 7 after a brief moment of loading setup files it prompts me for a driver, it doesn't say which driver is missing it just asks to locate one and i can't go any further. I have no idea what driver it is asking for as it doesn't say, it also can't be asking for the SATA driver as when i go to repair installation it find the hard drive and points to my Vista installation on another partition. I hope that makes sense, any ideas? Also the copy i am using is the x86 version from the MSDN website.

You can try hitting Ctrl+F5 (used to by pass errors) but I don't think that's going to help.  So the other option is a little more time consuming.

I would make an automated install of Windows 7 that includes the drivers.  Use the Windows Automated Installation kit (WAIK) with vLite to streamline all drivers into the install DVD.  You should be able to use the same drivers for Vista.

The breakdown of the steps are first download and install Windows 7 beta WAIK from here.

Then download and install vLite from here.

Then download all the drivers that your PC currently uses from IBM's site.

Run vLite and load your drivers into the ISO image and burn your new streamlined DVD.  vLite should make this pretty easy.

I'm downloading win 7RC right now and I'll try this out later today to see if I run into any problems.

Last thought if the Win7 beta WAIK doesn't work you could try the Vista WAIK

The Windows 7 beta WAIK didn't work for me.  I'm downloading the Vista sp1 WAIK right now.

I also found this nice walk though
