How do I navigate Outlook 2007 with Vista Speech Recognition?

I've been using Vista Speech Recognition for a couple of days. Navigating most applications is easy, but Outlook 2007 seems impenetrable. NONE of the menu items respond to "say what I see" and when I "show numbers" I get nothing but the outer window controls and the three search boxes -- and when I select one of them, I can't dictate anything into them. ("Enable dictation everywhere" is enabled.) I can't figure out how to switch folders, start a new message, or even access the File menu. What am I missing?
