Is it safe to open ports on firewall for XenCenter?

I see that to access a XenServer from outside the firewall i would need to open ports 443, 5900. Does anyone know if this is a safe practice? I could always setup a VPN in to the SonicWall TZ 180 but I'd rather just keep it simple for myself and other sys admins and simply open the ports... But is it is safe??

    Accepted Solution

Port 443 is HTTPS -- if you ever plan on hosting a web server from the same IP address that would have a secure web browser connection, or hosting Exchange web access, you probably don't want to forward all 443 traffic to this XenServer.

For future growth, as well as security - I'd recommend VPN in first, then connect to the XenServer after initiating the VPN.
