When you double click My Computer, it wants to show you all available drives. Do you have a CD Driver problem? A USB Driver problem? A second hard drive problem? Hard to say, but I would start here and let us know. I am assuming from what you say that other than this issue the computer is starting and running.  ... Thinkpads_User

What is in event viewer System and Application log before and after reboot? Bluescreen present?
Does it reboot from Safe Mode also?
Disconnect all extra hardware, boot and reattach one by one.
What is your exact windows version?

Did you try opening a partition/drive by typing the drivename in Run dialog box? Was the computer up and running before you formatted your hard disk? Any major changes recently? Did you change anything in file associations ? I've come across something similar...

Goto Start->Run->sfc /scannow

The above method will start the System File Checker and Windows will start checking any missing or damaged or overwritten Windows files and will replace them with new copies. You will need access to Windows XP CD for this.

Hope it helps.

If you start the machine in safe mode, and can access my computer, it points to a driver or a malfuntioning device whose driver didn't load during safe mode.
