I have two servers .
one server called 'data'  it has sql data bases and IIS intranet on port 80 for internal webs.
Other server  called 'web'  under IIS one web site is called WWW on port 80 and anonymose for internet access. The next is Intranet on port 443 via a link from www. This Intranet is a copy of the internal intranet on the data server. Everything uses sql data from the data server.
No physical data exists on the web server. The entire www is a virtual folder kept on the data server hard drive. The entire Intranet is a virtual folder that is the same intranet as the internal one , and kept on the data server.
Everything on old asp works fine. ASP.net doesnt work .
The point is to have one central location of the Intarnet asp pages so not having to keep a copy on both servers. I wanted the Data server kept away from the direct internet connection.
Could this virtual folder work to another server share ?
I get confused over the web.config
I tried creating in another application pool ... in IE page display "service unavailable"
Any ideas please.

So basically you don't want the one server to have any actually data and you want to create a virtual directory to the server containing the information? Well if you have the other server drive mapped to the machine that is the webserver then you should be able to do this. Since the actual drive path has to exist and as long as it remains mapped then yes, you will be able to use the mapped drive as a virtual directory. You'll have to setup the virtual directory as a local directory first. But after you do, you can go back and change to to the network shared directory by selecting a share located on another computer.

The remote is setup as a share rather than a mapped drive. Unless you think mapped drive is better e.g z:
I have played with permissions and giving share permissions everone read adn folder permission data\users read it works.
I need to know what to cut this down to as everone is rather to open!
I had domain users, network serice and iis_wpg but without eveyone it stops working.

Couldnt get map drive to work but shares with \\ worked ok. The asp was easy but asp.net was far more critical about using permissions. I wonder what the difference between data\users and everyone is? It wanted the data\users to work.
