Backup problems with symantec 11d backup:  failure occured querying the writer status.  Help.

have tried support from symantec and followed the Doc. ID  278212 and 261993; unfortunately to no avail.  

the cmd command:  vssadmin list writers     did not show any error.  
Tried updating Exec 11d but did not complete updating because of errors.  
tried restarting the machine and still not progress.  

What noticed is that the smaller backup job that is backing up a smaller server works fine.  However the backup backing up the domain and exchange server is not working.  

What do you all think is going on?

Based on the error log, it looks like volume shadow copying is causing the error.  Can you verify that the service is started?  What exactly are you doing when the error occurs?  Is it during a backup job or when setting up the job?  You may need to repair or reinstall Backup exec and/or reinstall drivers for the tape drive if going to tape.  Is this going to a file or tape?

Please provide more details about the error.  Thanks.

At the end of article 278212, it says to follow doc 312068 and reapply windows service pack for the server.  Did you do that?  Here is a link to the doc.
