Just wondering if I have a static IP and a windows server in my house. What's stopping me from having a domain name that ends in .whateveriwant
like www.mysite.thisisme

Is this possible? And if not why? and when will it get added?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You cant have .whatever as All the TLD - top level domains like .com, .net, .uk etc have a root server that serves/forwards the request to a DNS which in turn does the name to IP lookup.

Just found this, apparently, ICANN is the owners of the domain names ie top levels and you must pay and hope to be picked. So much for internet being free choice of names. Thanks for the help but I found the answer here.

But I believe, custom TLD's talks are there.

Just Google "Custom TLDs" you'll find loads of info
