Also here is the Cisco docs on upgrading. With the 2960 there are two ways to upgrade, either with the CLI or with the Device Manager.

Hi there,

I've found out that my switch doesn't have enough space for a new IOS, any other suggestions ? thanks.

First you will want to back it up to your TFTP server in case you need to restore it.
you will need to find out the name of the old IOS file.

dir flash:  <---this will list all the files in your flash. you will see the current file listed. You will also see how much memory it is using.

if removing the old IOS file will free up enough memory then run

copy flash:<filename> tftp  <--make sure your tftp server is up and running

after the file is copied over successfully then you just need to run the upgrade process as described here. this will overwrite the old IOS with the new one.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960/software/release/12.2_25_fx/release/notes/OL7076.html#wp45116

the /overwrite switch is what replaces the IOS.

I have done all the backup (IOS, configure files) to my tftp server.

The current image is c2960-lanbase-mz.122-25.bin, the new image is  c2960-lanbase-mz.122-50.bin

The file I have is *.bin, what is the command to copy from tftp to flash ?

Will it be like this ?
copy /overwrite tftp://ip-addess/c2960-lanbase-mz.122-50.bin flash:/c2960-lanbase-mz.122-25.bin

copy tftp flash

you will then be asked for the tftp server IP, the source file name and then the destination file name.

After it loads run

verify c2960-lanbase-mz.122-50.bin

this will insure the image copied fully without errors. Then reload and you should be set
