Can Twitter track the originating IP Address?

I was wondering if any of the Twitter applications track the IP address from a Twitter account? So, let's assume Twitter use John_Doe, posts a Tweet, is there a way to determine where that Tweet originating from, that is, what IP address?

Nice job. This was the exact term I was looking for: We do not associate your IP address with any other personally identifiable information to identify you personally, except in case of violation of the Terms of Service.
