Javascript - remove menu bar from browser window

I know there is a way to open a new window with Javascript that has fixed dimensions and that has no address bar or menu bar.  But is there a way to apply these settings to a currently open window?

There's no way to remove those elements on the fly.

Here's a similair question with a hacked solution that may/may not work.
