Need PHP admin help

I inherited admin on a live server. All I know is that it uses php and there is a phpMyAdmin page.   I have no idea what the phpMyAdmin server password is from the last admin.

How can I reset this?

I did a bit of online research and all i can find is the command:  mysqladmin -u root password 'mypassword'  

That command gets me an Access Denied Error.  

Advice on how to access and admin this server?

Also on the phpMyAdmin login page it says.

Cannot load mcrypt extension. Please check your PHP configuration.

phpMyAdmin user and password same as MySQL

in this case , you should reset the MySQL root password:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/resetting-permissions.html

Cannot load mcrypt extension:
you need enable mcrypt extension in php.ini file
