Need PHP admin help

I inherited admin on a live server. All I know is that it uses php and there is a phpMyAdmin page.   I have no idea what the phpMyAdmin server password is from the last admin.

How can I reset this?

I did a bit of online research and all i can find is the command:  mysqladmin -u root password 'mypassword'

That command gets me an Access Denied Error.

Advice on how to access and admin this server?

phpMyAdmin user and password same as MySQL

in this case , you should reset the MySQL root password:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/resetting-permissions.html

Cannot load mcrypt extension:
you need enable mcrypt extension in php.ini file
