I had been looking for something like an Emulator (not simulator) for Cisco IOS. I will have a real IOS image which I can load up into an emulator and work on as if I am on the real Cisco hardware. I am not quite sure if any such software exists or not. Please let me know if there is any. This is for R&D purpose.

Or please let me know if there is any good Simulator which can work good and all commands work for Switch/multilayer Switch and also router.

Thanx in advance.

Hi ashwin_kumar525,

GNS3 is good for routers but it only allows switch modules in routers so sometimes the commands are slightly different.

I also used some Boson software that was pretty good but it was quite expensive.

I have heard alot about Dynamips but not sure how good this is because i haven't personally used it.

GNS3 would be my choice, its also free.

Cheers
Dan

Highly recommend for the official Cisco Academy tools call Cisco Packet Tracer, and the latest version is 5.1, you can search from Google and get it easily.

Hi,

Personal recommendations are;

www.freesco.org
www.boson.com/AboutNetSim.html
www.networksims.com
www.gns3.net

As previously mentioned, GNS3 is the best option for you.
