WSUS scheduling question

All,
We have a single AD domain with about 500+ users and about 200 servers(2000 - 2k3 R2). Our applications are spread from custom in house apps to the MS Dev Studio.

I have successfully implemented WSUS in a 50 user environment. So I am not that new to WSUS. That said my question is ...

When it comes to setting up the client side targeting, how in the heck will we handle the scheduling?

We have facilities all over the state. Some with T-1 connections and some with dial-up connections. Given the state agency I work for ... putting a downstream server at the remote facilites is simply not an option. Granted most facilities do not have many workstations as most devices are thin clients. In addition, we have @ 4 - 5 office buildings through out the city that will also need to have workstations and servers updated.

As always, thank you all for your help,

Naerwen

I specifically stated

"Given the state agency I work for ... putting a downstream server at the remote facilites is simply not an option."

All solutions presented had that in one form or another. I, therefore, had no choice but to devise a solution on my own. Credit is being given but the question will not be added to the KB because the answers are, ultimately, ineffective.
