A friend would like to print at home with his company laptop. Vista. Wireless home network with shared printer.

The administrative account on that laptop has been disabled buy his work IT. I contacted her suggesting she set up an additional user account for this purpose. She has suggested that Jeff buy a wireless printer.

The problem I see with that is... a wireless printer becomes part of the peer to peer wireless home network that we can not access or set up on the laptop without administrator rights.

Another option would be to add a wired printer to that laptop in Jeff's home office, however, I don't think we can add a printer to that laptop with no administrator rights. We have not tried this.

The existing network setting are on a domain for work server.

The issue is the ability to install printer drivers.  By default, only Administrators and Power Users can install printer drivers.  If your friend can get one of the techs at their work to install the drivers for their printer while at work, then they can add the printer when they get home.

They will probably have to setup the printer through add/remove printers instead of using software provided by the printer manufacturer
