Can I use Google Search API on the server?

I am working on a internal web application. The application need to provide a content search capability. The content title and location is stored in db, but large part of them resides in file system (on the server). Can I use Google Search API to provide search service to the internal user? If not, what option do I have?

I don't think you can use the google APIs to create a search tool to search your own database.

Else everybody would use the google technology to search in their intranets or their websites without going through google. Do you think that google is giving out his winning technology for free?

You can install Google Desktop Search and use it's API to search your DB.
