I have a Dell D/Bay Model # PD01S with a DVD.  The USB connector at the end of the cord has a power connector that is above the USB connection.  So it is a typical USB plug with a power connection incorporated into it so it will not fit into a USB port.  Is there an adapter I can buy so I can use this on any machine.

Hello,
The connector that is on your D/Bay is called a Dell D/Bay Connector it looks like the picture on the bottom of this webpage: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd400/smen/pinouts.htm.

Unfortunately there is no commercial alternative to convert this connector to all USB.

That being said, I did find an article that explains how to modify the cable on the Dell D/Bay device to work using two USB Connectors. It does however require some electronics knowledge and you must know how to use a soldering iron.
Check out this post. The directions are on the second page.
