LDAP and Server 2008

I have two servers running Server 2008.  It seems I am having problems with 1 authenticating with LDAP.

1)  is there a tool that can tell me varying speeds of LDAP authentication  (LDAP sniffer)
2)  How can I verify that LDAP is running properly

If you need to test LDAP you can use:
http://ldapadmin.sourceforge.net/

What is exact configuration of those boxes and what roles they have installed?
What services experiencing issues with LDAP authentication?
