Tiff image graycycle, darkness

I want to improve the darkness of the tiff image to read barcode to do the OCR (Since the image is very light , OCR couldnot recognise the Barcode in the Image) . If anybody knows please let me know to improve the darkness . I am trying to do it through ImageMagick... its not giving the exact result. if anything else also please let me know.

Try the following free photo editing software programs. I know in photoshop they have a thing called levels that would work perfect, but it's not free. If you could find a program with the level capabilities, that would be perfect for you. Levels works off the histogram and you can darken the shadows / midtons / highlights which gives you more control over the image.

If this is just temporary, try the free trial of photoshop from adobe.com and you can use it until it runs out. You can get a license for around 100+, it's the best photo editing software out there. ( I'm a big fan obviously :)  )
