Have a user who has been running a published application from a shortcut on their desktop. They have been using this method for the last couple years, and it has suddenly quit working. The published application still works, but there is something wrong with the shortcut. When i run the shortcut now, i am getting the message:
"Cannot connect to the Citrix metaframe server. Protocol driver error."

The current shortcut looks as follows:
""C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICA Client\pn.exe"  /APP "Picas" /PNI "6b49uguf""

Not sure what the /APP and /PNI parameters are for. /APP is logical, but not /PNI.

The switch /PNI. is created whenever you drag an applications icon from Program Neighborhood  to the desktop.  The shortcut maybe pointing to a old published app. The /APP switch is the name of custom connection.
Can you delete the old icon and drag a new one from PN?

When i opened PN on the client machine, the Picas app was there. I hit refresh and it is gone. Not sure why it doesn't show up. This user does have rights to it. I think we are close to resolving this.

If you logon to the client's machine is the Picas app available for you? If it is I would make sure no rights have changed for that user.

No, it is not. I even tried to use admin account credentials, and still am unable to get the the Picas App to show up in PN.

Running PN from the Citrix, using the same admin credentials, i can see the Picas app. Very odd.

Was anything changed on the PN client? Is the Server Location address set correctly?

Not that i know of. Our farm is FSFARM. When i go into PN and select the option to "find new application set" and walk through the wizard, i can select my farm from the drop down. I only have one option. Meaning we don't have multiple servers/farms.
