URL Redirect

I used www.site1.com as a development domain for a website, and now that the site is completed, it has been moved to www.site2.com.

The problem is that search engines are already showing www.site1.com, the development site, in search results. I need to take down www.site1.com, but I want to redirect any traffic that does go here to www.site2.com

What is the best way to do this? Thanks.

You can add a meta tag to your index page at site1 to redirect:

<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.site2.com">

what type of server are the sites on? If they're using apache you can use a .htaccess redirect

Also, depending on how your host is setup you can often mirror a site from within your domain control panel if site1 is no longer needed. Where site1 mirrors site2 and there's no redirect. Or, change the dns of site1 so it points to the same A record as site2.

The meta tag is the simplest for sure. This is the .htaccess redirect:

Redirect 301 / http://www.site2.com/
