how to configure cisco ap1242 wpa

Hi,

I got a cisco ap1242 at hand but I have trouble to configure correctly. The access point work when i using no encryption or web.  But I am not sure how to make the wpa work. I have included some screen cap for my config. Please help me to rectify mistakes.

ps: Is wpa much safer than wep ? If not what is the more secure way encryption supported by this ap?

wpa is more secure but you could use wep with mac filtering and have a higher level of security yet.

Try this and see if you can establish a connection.

Does the event log report anything?

Are you able to telnet/console to it? I find the GUI on Cisco APs rubbish and misleading.

If you can to a CLI then make sure you have the following; assuming this device is running as an Access-point. They key points are to define the ssid/authentication/wpakey/vlan  under the dot11 line, then under the interface associate that ssid and encryption for the vlan.

dot11 ssid mySSIDname
vlan 1                                 (make sure this is the correct vlan, if untagged network use 1/default)
   authentication open
   authentication key-management wpa
wpa-psk ascii 1234      (your wpa key)

interface Dot11Radio0
 no ip address
 no ip route-cache
 !
 !
encryption vlan 1 mode ciphers tkip
 !
 ssid mySSIDname
 !
 station-role root
 rts threshold 2312
