you should start the computer into the BIOS and configure it from there

I have a compaq evo desktop, i looked in the bios it only says remote wake and you select local disk or remote server, i left it on remote server do i just need software on the other end from a XP machine and know the MAC address of the linux box?

Dont know the model it is a business class desktop. maybe it is this D51s

as far as i know the operating system is not involved in the process of wake on lan.
it wakes up the computer before the os is loaded
