XenServer Licensing

Okay. I know it's free, but after I install the license key it shows an expiration date of 1 year from now. What happens in one year? Do I add another key. Is there a stoppage or outage if this isn't done? I don't understand why it expires if it's free???

You would just apply another license key.

They expire because Citrix wants control over it's software, as any company would. Maybe they decide in a year that they start charging for it.

I am using Citrix XenServer 5.0, and I am about to go live, but my license has expired.  Also, I need VLAN Trunking support, and I do not have it without a license.

I am getting tired with XenServer, and am considering just puttin ESX3i on this hypervisor.
