Mapped network drive losing connectivity

There are about 6 users in the office that have a folder on the server that they Scan to via Xerox workcentre 7345 and access it as a mapped netword drive. Sometimes when they try to open that mapped drive and it will freeze their computer, then after a while it will error, " an error has occured while connecting to drive so-and-so: network resourse is currently in use".
Users have to log off then log back on to re establish the connection to that drive.

-cheked ON reconnect at login
-checking server session time out
-if one user cant access they all cant access.
-they all have internet connectivity
-sometimes it takes forever to access the server via entire netwotk/network places

Specs:
Server 2003 enterprise
workstations-XP Pro SP2
xerox 7345

all devices connected through switch.
users say problem started after server "windows Updates"
