How can I move the Public Folders Store from the First Storage Group to another Group on the same server?

Hi,

I want to move the Public Folder Store from the FSG to another Storage Group that I created. My aim is to deleted the FSG as I have had many issues with it, but I do not know how. I tried to create another one on the destination Storage Group and then move the Public folders between the Groups, but I will not let me create it.

You can do that using ADSIEDIT but i wouldnt recommend that.
We can try creating a new SG and a PF store and then dismounting both the FSG PFstore and the new store and put the FSG PFdatabase in the location of the new DB and check the box this DB can be overwritten by a restore and mount.
Remember one thing that only one PF on a server can be attached to a MAPI PFTree.

The Public folders are replicated among server and if you have got a new server and if all your mailboxes have been moved to this server then all you need to do is to ensure that this server is added as a replication partner under the "Replication" tab of the public folder.

Storage group would not have any info on the PF's . Its the mailbox store that would have the information about the Public folder server to which it is associated.

There is only one MAPI Public Folder Tree in the Organization and only one PFstore on each server can be connected to it. As far as i see in the question there is no other server.
You can't create a second public folder store on the same server.

Try to troubleshoot your issue or bring a new server and move the pfs.
You can do one thing is to take a good Online Backup and then dismoount the store and take a flat file backup of .edba nd .stm.
Now go ahead and delete the PF store under FSG and you can create a new PF under the NEW Storage Group and work as i said earlier.

Hi Rancy,

I tried your last entry, but when try and delete the PF under FSG, it says "this pfs is the last store holding the MAPI public folder tree and cannot be deleted"
You can't delete a public folder store just like that. It contains system folders and without it, all your Outlook users will start to have issues.
Guru Rajith_Enchiparambil would you have an idea how I can achieve my goal?
If you have only one server, you can only have one PF database. end of story.

Why do you want to create a new pf db, you need a new server. Why don't you fix the issues you have with this existing db?
Is it possible for you to have some downtime?
If so let me know.
The only option that is available to you is another server as a temporary measure so that you can replicate the content off and then adjust the Public Folder store settings on the mailbox stores to use that public folder store. Once you have done that you will be able to delete that store.

Nothing else is supported and I wouldn't want to suggest doing anything else.

Simon.
Any updates on the issue ?
Rancy

I can have down time out of hours.

Mestha,

Where can I adjust the Public Folder store settings on the mailbox stores to use that public folder store?
It is on the properties of the mailbox in ESM, on the first tab.

Simon.
If you go to ESM and to the Properties o fthe Mailbox store on the general tab you would see the PF store that the Mailbox store is pointing to. But in this scenario you would require a new server and a PF store on it. But what i was going to do is to delete and create a PF store on the same server after we took a backup.
Any updates on the issue ?
