Hi Experts.  I have several images (bmp, jpeg) that have a white background or border that really stands out when placed in a website that has a different color background.  How can I modify the image so that the image will be transparent or remove the white entirely?  Thanks for your help and my apologies if I haven't explained it well enough.

You'll need to convert then into gif, select the white portion of the image, set it as transparent, save the gif.

I don't know what image editor you are using so can't give you anymore details.

1.  Using GIMP, open your image.
2.  Now select Layer>Transparency>Color to Alpha. Since you are removing white, you don't need to change the color. Note: if this was a color image, any color containing white, the white will be removed, giving the colored areas an opaque effect, or in the digital scrapbooking world - vellum quality.
3.  Save the image as a gif or the changes you made will be lost!
