I have a procurve 5412zl switch i would like to monitor using an snmp application. I have never set it up before on this device. Can someone shed some light on how it is done. I have been asked to utilize MIBs as well if I can be assisted with that as well.

If you haven't already look at the manuals here: http://www.hp.com/rnd/support/manuals/5400zl.htm (specifically under 'Management and Configuration')

If you're already comfortable with using the CLI for management the commands of interest are of the form:

snmp-server community "community_name" Unrestricted
snmp-server host <some monitoring server IP> "community_name" All

Or you can configure SNMP via the CLI 'menu' command.  2. Switch Configuration, 5. SNMP Community Names.

The MIBs will have more to do with your monitoring application I believe.

I'm not familiar with the application, but SNMP is a standard that should work across manufacturers.
A quick look at the intermapper.com site didn't show any direct reference to ProCurve device support.
Your best bet would be to check with any support you have for the Intermapper software to see if there are any issues using Intermapper with ProCurve hardware.
