If you're already comfortable with using the CLI for management the commands of interest are of the form:<br />

snmp-server community &quot;community_name&quot; Unrestricted<br />
snmp-server host &lt;some monitoring server IP&gt; &quot;community_name&quot; All<br />

Or you can configure SNMP via the CLI 'menu' command. &nbsp;2. Switch Configuration, 5. SNMP Community Names.<br />

I have a procurve 5412zl switch i would like to monitor using an snmp application. I have never set it up before on this device. Can someone shed some light on how it is done. I have been asked to utilize MIBs as well if I can be assisted with that as well.

SNMP monitoring on ProCurve switches

A switch is a device that filters and forwards packets of data between LAN segments. Switches operate at the data link layer or the network layer of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model and therefore support any packet protocol. LANs that use switches to join segments are called switched LANs or, in the case of Ethernet networks, switched Ethernet LANs. A hub is a connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are commonly used to connect segments of a LAN. A hub contains multiple ports; when a packet arrives at one port, it is copied to the other ports so that all segments of the LAN can see all packets.
