Hi, on your BES have you disabled the IBS browser and\or other message services via IT Policy?

I assume your carrier support Yahoo Messenger so try the following:

1. On the device go to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Press menu > Select Register Now

2. Go to Options > Advanced Options > Applications > highlight Yahoo > Press menu > Select Edit Permissions > Ensure Connections is set to Allow.
What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

First I would try creating a blank policy and assign it to a test user.  If this still fails contact your service provider to see if they support the Yahoo messenger.  You can try downloading the provider\rim service books by going to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Press menu > Select register Now.
