No login dialog after returning from screen saver on Windows XP Pro SP3
Posted on 2009-05-13
I have the following effect on one of our Lenovo Laptops (T200) running Windows XP Pro SP3 and the setup is as follows:
After 15 minutes of inactivity the screen saver is activated and requires the user to enter his password again. Now the problem.
From time to time (and not every time!) - after moving the mouse, etc. - the desktop does not show the dialog box to reenter the password. It just shows a clean desktop background - no icons, no taskbar, just the mouse pointer, which is movable.
Even pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL or any other key combination show no response. No taskmanager, no explorer via WIN-E, etc. Connecting via RDP or VNC over the network is working but makes no difference.
I have already checked:
- event logs
- disabled unneeded services
- checked with hijackthis and removed BHOs from explorer (see attached hijackthis logfile from april)
- deactived add-ons from IE7
Has anyone some idea what the root cause of this behavior could be? Is there a known situations on Windows XP on which the password dialog box doesnt show up after screen saver?
I hope somebody can help me - thankx!
