SBS2003 Migration to SBS2008 on Same Server

I have a server running SBS2003 and I just received my SBS 2008 DVDs.  I would like to use the same server and upgrade the OS.  I have checked and the processor will run x64 bit OS.  In all the migration documentation it all talks about having a source and destination server.

Is there a way to migrate/upgrade from SBS2003 to SBS2008 on the same server?

Hi,

From what I can tell there is no direct inplace ugrade of sbs 2003 to sbs 2008. I believe the reason is because of the switch from x86 to x64 artecheture. To use the same hardware you are going to have to do a full backup, and clean install of sbs 2008. That is unless I am missing something aobut SBS 2008, Also, check the system requirements for sbs 2008. If you don't have 4gb of RAM it won't install.

Cheers,
Perry
