Dear Sir/Madam:

I installed fuzzyocr ( FuzzyOcr-3.5.1)to block spam images , installation instructions says the following to be set :
focr_enable_image_hashing 2
focr_db_hash /etc/mail/spamassassin/FuzzyOcr.db
focr_db_safe /etc/mail/spamassassin/FuzzyOcr.safe.db
when i edited the /etc/mail/spamassassin/FuzzyOcr.cf and set the the above 03 but i do not have the FuzzyOcr.db  and FuzzyOcr.safe.db files in my source  FuzzyOcr-3.5.1 , please suggest me what should be done as i do not have FuzzyOcr.db  and FuzzyOcr.safe.db files in the source download even after installing , please help thanks in advance.

From the installation docs, you need to install MLDBM and MLDBM::Sync.

SpamAssassin checks messages for characteristics that identify it as spam, assigns a weight to each one, and reports the total score. If it exceeds a certain threshold, it also flags it as spam. But it doesn't usually block the message. It's up to the user or another product like MailScanner to decide what to do with the spam.

Your messages will indeed be flagged as spam if they contain any of the words in the list.

Thanks for the reply , SIr i downloaded source MLDBM-2.01.tar.gz and installed the same like the following
  perl Makefile.PL
   make test
   make install
after doing the above but still i do not see the FuzzyOcr.db  and FuzzyOcr.safe.db files so that if these two were found i thought of setting the path for these two in the FuzzyOcr.cf , please tell how can i get these two files , thanks in advance.

The word list you posted is only for fuzzyocr and therefore onto for words detected as part of any pictures attached to the email. Those words mentioned in the normal text body of an email wont cause it to be classed as spam.

The two .db files mentioned are used by fuzzyocr so that it can remember the past images that it has seen so that if it gets given lots of the same image to scan (a image as part of someones signature whi sends you lots of emails for example) it only has to scan it once and then remembers the result for future  scans and this makes it much faster.
Therefore these files should be automatically generated the first time the plugin loads.

Sir , thanks for the reply , these two files FuzzyOcr.db  and FuzzyOcr.safe.db are missing i tried with the locate FuzzyOcr.db
i have installed MLDBM-2.01.tar.gz
 String::Approx  ( by using cpan)
Time::HiRes (by usingwith cpan)
MLDBM::Sync (by using MLDBM::Sync)
please note my spamassassin version is install-Clam-0.95.1-SA-3.2.5
after installing all then i re run the spamassassin think Fuzzy is working but problem is i am missing two
db files i,e  FuzzyOcr.db  and FuzzyOcr.safe.db as this is required to implement type 2 hashing. please help me how to proceed on this and fix this , thanks in advance.

You need to create the files initially and then make sure they are writiable :-

cd /etc/mail/spamassassin/
touch FuzzyOcr.db
touch FuzzyOcr.safe.db
chmod 666 Fuzzy*.db

These details are mentioned in the installation page at http://fuzzyocr.own-hero.net/wiki/Installation-3.5.x

I think you've only done syntax checks of the config files. Try processing an email message with a graphic.

In the "samples" directory, there are several sample email messages. Try this command:

spamassassin --debug FuzzyOcr <ocr-animated.eml

and post the output if the db files are not created.

It is failing because it cant process the gif file because it cant find the gifsicle program (http://www.lcdf.org/gifsicle/).
Make sure you have it installed.

Have you read through http://fuzzyocr.own-hero.net/wiki/Installation-3.5.x as it lists the software packages that are required.

Sir, thank you very much for the suggestion , installed gifsicle  after doing so , processed all the following
spamassassin --debug FuzzyOcr <ocr-png.eml
spamassassin --debug FuzzyOcr <ocr-animated.eml
spamassassin --debug FuzzyOcr <ocr-gif.eml
spamassassin --debug FuzzyOcr <ocr-multi.eml
spamassassin --debug FuzzyOcr <ocr-obfuscated.eml
spamassassin --debug FuzzyOcr < ocr-wrongext.eml
by executing and the above commands now i can see two db files got created in the /etc/mail/spamassassin (FuzzyOcr.db  and FuzzyOcr.safe.db)

after this executed the following command and also posted the output request you to check does fuzzy working perfectly or anything missing so that i should correct it , please suggest me.
spamassassin -D --lint 2>&1 | grep -i Fuzzy

Looks fine so far but I would run it with "spamassassin --debug FuzzyOcr <ocr-animated.eml" so that it has an actual image file to test.

Note the following from the log :-

[4908] error: FuzzyOcr: Cannot exec giftext, skipping image
[4908] error: FuzzyOcr: Cannot exec giffix, skipping image
[4908] error: FuzzyOcr: Cannot exec gifinter, skipping image

You havent installed giflib. Download it from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=102202 and then apply the patch for giftext from http://fuzzyocr.own-hero.net/wiki/Downloads

P.S I assume you did download fuzzyocr from SVN and didnt download 'the latest stable release'. The latest stable release is not compatible with spamassassin 3.2.x

You could go to http://fuzzyocr.own-hero.net/browser/trunk/devel and download and save all the files via a web browser. You can then just replace the original files you unpacked from your earlier installation.

Yes you can download file by file.
You can copy all the files by using the 'svn' application but it is probably quicker to copy file by file through the web interface rather than figure out how to use svn.

What user are you logged in as?
Often you would be logged in as root but when spamassassin is running it is normally running as a different user. These problems can therefore be due to file permissions.

Can you post the output of "ls -la /etc/mail/spamassassin"

First fix the file permissions so that the spam group has access to the log files and the fuzzyocr databases :-

cd /etc/mail/spamassassin
chown -R root:spam FuzzyOcr
chmod g+wx FuzzyOcr
chmod g+w FuzzyOcr/*

Have you verified that giffix is actually installed?
If you enter the giffix command does it run the application?
If it dies then probably the path where it is installed is different to what fuzzyocr expects so you need to change it in the fuzzyocr configuration.
See http://www.maiamailguard.com/maia/wiki/FuzzyOCR23 for a good guide to setting up fuzzyocr

It looks fine. teseract support is experemental so you dont have to have that software installed.
The other two warning are related to razor and dcc which are completely separate modules which you simply dont have configured.

There is no fuzzyocr mentioned in the spam report and this is because the spam score is already very high. fuzzyocr saves time by not scanning images if the email is already classed as spam.

1.03 is very old

Try installing 2.03

Did the final database file get created ok?
Just double check the permissions on it are the same as the others and you should then be fine.

You might also want to take a look at this forum :-

I have used it for discussions about tweaking the fuzzyocr settings.
