New Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 setup issue

I installed a new Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 on a Windows XP Pro SP2 PC but it does not work. After installing the applications and the driver that came with the scanner, i rebooted the PC per the installation's on-screen instructions. After the reboot i attached the scanner to a USB port, Windows displayed the usual 'new hardware found' message and set the scasnner up successfully. I launched Acrobat but it didn't see the scanner. So I went into Windows Control Panel and opened Scanners and Cameras. ScanSnap was listed in there but when I right-clicked the icon and opened the properties it said the scanner status was unavailable and the test & diagnostics button was disabled.

Afterwards i learned that the user had connected the scanner to the PC previously w/o installing the driver.  So i uninstalled the apps/driver for the scanner,  went into the registry and delelted all entries i could find by searching for ScanSnap.

Then I re-installed the apps/driver but scanner still does not work.

Thank you for your help.

i would test the unit on another pc - it can be defective.
then reinstall it  (if it is ok) - follow the correct procedure (as you know)
if still unsuccessful, use revo unstaller to remove leftovers :  http://www.revouninstaller.com/
then try again

What i have determined is that this is not a TWAIN compliant scanner and does not behave like a typical TWAIN compliant scanner. To scan documents either the scan button on the scanner has to be used or the scanning function has to be selected by right-clicking it's icon in the tray.  In other words, one can not open a scanning application and use this scanner to scan. It only works with its own software.

This is the solution:
"this is not a TWAIN compliant scanner and does not behave like a typical TWAIN compliant scanner. To scan documents either the scan button on the scanner has to be used or the scanning function has to be selected by right-clicking it's icon in the tray. "
