The goal is to have a distribution list for every company.  For example: jon@abc.com, steve@abc.com, and jeff@abc.com would be in a dist. list called ABC Distribution list.

But when I try to use the multiple field function on the dist list screen to find all these people, nothing turns up.  Does this feature work?  Doesn't seem to.  The only search that seems to work is a search by name, not by company.  Thanks.

Are these in your own contact list or in a Global Adsress list?

I believe the option to search by company is only available if searching in the Global Address List.
As when you use advanced search in your personal contacts you dont have the option to search for Company Name only names containing.

A way around that is to edit your Personal Contacts Full name to include their company name.
(i.e. FULL NAME: Smith John, ABC Company)

Then you can put the company name in the search filed and it will come up.

However, depending on the number of contacts you have this seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through just to create one DL.

I would just create a DL, Select multiple Members from my Contacts List by scrolling down the list and using CTRL+Left Mouse Click to select multiple members to add to the list at one time.
