Inbox view of Lotus Local Replica incomplete

Hi,
I have a user using Lotus Ver 6.5 who uses the local replication. The problem is that when he opens the local replica Inbox view, only emails of the last few days are viewable. On opening the Views > All Documents of the local replica, a complete list of emails is viewed and the problem in the Inbox view is solved as now the expected amount of emails is viewed. Can anyone explain this ?, Thanks.

An explanation of the behaviour is not too difficult: Inbox is not a view, it is a folder; a view contains documents, a folder contains references to documents; when you remove a document from a view, they are really deleted (or moved to Trash), but when you remove a document from a folder, only the reference is removed but the document is still in the database. So, in your case, somehow the document references get removed from the Inbox folder.

As to the why... well, that question's more difficult to answer. The user might do that inadvertently, but let's assume he didn't. There might be an agent in the database that removes these older references every day. There might also be a design problem, you could upgrade to a later release (6.5.6 or >7.0.3, or 8). Lbnl, there may be a database problem that needs fixing up.

What you could do:
- if only the local replica has this problem, remove it completely and pull a new replica from the server
- if both local and server replicas show the same behaviour, you could:
   - compact the database
   - replace the design of the database
   - fixup the database

By the way, if documents are missing from the Inbox folder, go to the All documents view, select those document and drag them to the Inbox. It's not a permanent solution of course.
