Checkbox value in ASP classic

I'm trying to display the value of checkbox on an admin page where people can click a checkbox to make current record active.

The checkbox is always empty though the first value is true but all the others are false.
<input type="checkbox" name="Active" value= "true" <%if rs("Active") = "true" Then %>checked<% End If %>

If I just do rs(Active) I get the corrcet values. I need to get the checkboxes selected if the value is true.
