Disassociate a word document from a mail merge recipient list

I connected to a text file to test a document with merge fields. I now want to get rid of the text file as the process will be controlled by an application. Can anyone advise how to achieve this? There is no shortage of articles explaining how to set mail merge up, but I cannot find anything about backing out it.

The mail merge toolbar has a button called 'Main document setup' on the extreme left. Choosing the 'Normal Word Document' option from the pop-up menu will remove the datasource link.

Sorry i forgot to mention I'm using Word 2007. No such button.

'Normal Word Document' is an item in the 'Start Mail Merge' button on the 'Mailings' ribbon.

That seems to be it. I had 'Normal Word Document' selected in the start but didn't notice that the selection moves to 'Letters' when the recipient list is chosen. Many thanks.
