When Windows Vista starts on my laptop I get this screen:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problems:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3. Click Repair your computer.

Thats really confusing me!

Should I just do as it says or do something else.

yes, do as they say.
note that is can be due to failing hardware too, so testing deices is not bad eiteher (ram and disk)
