I have a Dell Power Edge 2300 that I would like to retire (damm good piece of hardware), but move the contents of the hard drive onto a new server such as an IBM.  The only thing that is the same between the 2 servers is W2k3 standard.

Is it possible to do this and have any applications that are running on the server able to transfer over to the new server.  Would doing an IRD CD with the new server pointing to a restore from the old server data work?

It would be nice instead of re-installing all the applications and licenses.

IDR is supposed to work for dissimilar hardware. Note it says dissimilar - it does not say "completely different". But do give it a try. Chances are it will work You will have to manually load the RAID drivers though.
