Telling Windows Media Player to display a hosted WMV file in full screen mode

There's a WMP file on my Apache server with the URL

      http://myhost.dom.com/movies/amovie.WMP

Klicking on the hyperlink in an MS Internet Explorer 6 causes the MS Windows Media Player
to start in a separate window with all WMP toolbars and controls ("full mode") and display the
movie. How can the WMPlayer be directed by the HTTP Server to open the video in "full screen"
mode instead of in a "full mode" window?

From a DOS box I can type

      C:\> WMPlayer.EXE  /FULLSCREEN  http://myhost.dom.com/movies/amovie.WMV

but how to embed the command with its option "/FULLSCREEN" in the context of a web site ?

Look at the example near the bottom, with the button labeled "fullscreen=true".
<table border=0 cellpadding=5 cellspacing=0 class="codesamp">
<tr><th align="left">fullScreen=true</th></tr>
<tr><td align="center">
<INPUT TYPE="BUTTON" NAME="BtnPlay" VALUE="Play" OnClick="javascript:Player13.controls.play();">
<OBJECT ID="Player13" width="0" height="0" CLASSID="CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6">
<PARAM name="autoStart" value="false">
<PARAM name="fullScreen" value="true">
<PARAM name="url" value="smooth.wmv">
</OBJECT>
</td></tr>
</table>

Open in new window

You must be kidding.
What has repair/reinstall got to do with it?

Hi, Pressureh,

at first glance I couldn't see any connection in your suggestion to my problem.
I still can't but perhaps it's just my misunderstanding, because your comment
was so short.

What should be repaired or reinstalled?

The Apache server? I tried Apache 1.3 and Apache2 2.2 as well as IIS on a Windows Server 2008.
They can't all three need to be repaired/reinstalled.

MS Windows? Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows XP x64 all do the same.

The MS Internet Explorer? I tried MS IE 6, 7 and 8 even FireFox and Chrome. Same story.

The MS Windows Media Player? I tried WMP 9, 10 and 11.
Same behaviour with all three of them.

So what did you mean? What should be repaired or reinstalled?

I think all four components, HTTP Server, Windows, Web Browser, WMPlayer do
what is expected - the WMP-file is downloaded from the server and played back
in a WMPlayer window in the preset mode, either "full mode" or "design mode" i.e.
"compact mode". Registries could perhaps be manipulated to make WMPlayer
always start in "fullscreen mode" (expanding the picture to the whole screen
without any decorations, icons, tollbars and similar), but the point is that the
HTTP server should be able to somehow tell the client Windows to play the movie
in "fullscreen mode" regardless of what its default setting is.

Therefore I asked if there is anything that can be done on the server side to nudge
the client's WMP-viewer into playing the movie in "fullscreen mode". You know, on many
sites you may add optional variables set to some value like:

      http://www.google.com?search='wmp'

or some such trick.

Any idea?
