Hello
I have COX cable. Had a wireless Linksys (WRTG54GX2) set up with my Linksys Cable modem. All is well. Room mate unhooks from Linksys router, and connects his laptop to the modem. He surfs for a while. Now I can't get my LInksys to work. It sees  public IP from the modem, but I can't surf or PING the DNS servers.
Do I need to clone the MAC of the laptop? I can get a public IP and surf on the laptop.
thanks!

Some cable companies do bind MAC addresses.  Usually there is a timeout period, so if you leave the cable modem powered off, disconnected from the cable overnight, it may reset.

If you don't want to wait, call COX support and have them reset the line to clear the MAC address associated with it.   It's a frequent request.....

I'll give the powered off  a night and see if that works. Their support was less than accommodating.
