HI,
I have a 80 GB (5th Gen) Ipod, that is goes into the  "Connect ipod to restore" loop.  I have restored Ipod with Itune 100s of times.
I even tried keith22's suggestion mentioned on:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1679535&tstart=0

But now luck.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Are you using a firewall?
This happens from a home computer or an office computer?
Some times the iPod cannot be restored because there's no connection to the server and the information to restore cannot be loaded to your computer. This happens if you have some kind of control on the internet access.
In my office we have websense and I can't connect to restore an iPod.

Hi xema,
I am to perform a complete restore with Itune, but iPod keeps showing "Connect ipod to restore" even with a reset.

HI Xema,
Sorry for the delay.  There is not fireware/proxy barrier.  iTunes is able to access the Internet.
The workstations that I tried perform the restore on are both XP with SP2
