How do I get Kodak ES software to download after a 14x20x0x message?

I thought I knew my PC, I have had the subject software since 2004, but after doing a system recovery, this has me stymied....  I joined EE to get specific help in solving this/my dilemna.  It even has HP and Kodak puzzled!  Surely hope I can get help on this matter.  CJ  <signed>

Can you elaborate on the question, its not very clear.
Ok i googled and found out what the error means. Here is the solution:

This error code indicates that EasyShare software experienced a problem with the Windows installer.
To resolve this error condition, do the following:

Visit the EASYSHARE Software Download Web page, and install the latest version of EasyShare software.

If you still experience difficulty, follow these steps:

   1. Open My Computer.
   2. Select:
          * Windows 98: View > Folder Options
          * Windows Me, 2000, or XP: Tools > Folder Options
   3. Select the View tab.
   4. Select Show All Hidden Files and Folders.
   5. Select Start > Find, or Start > Search.
   6. Type: msisip.dll
   7. Click Find Now or Search Now. The Files are located in:
          * Windows 98 or Me: C:\Windows\System
          * Windows 2000 or XP: C:\WinnT\System32
   8. Rename msisip.dll to msisip.old.
   9. Obtain the Windows installer:
         1. Insert the Kodak EasyShare software CD into the CD-ROM drive.
         2. In My computer, right-click the CD-ROM drive, and select Explore or Open.
         3. Double-click the Engine folder.
         4. Find the Windows installer executable file:
                * Windows 98 or Me: instmsia.exe
                * Windows 2000 or XP: instmsiw.exe
  10. If the EasyShare software CD is not available, download the Windows installer from the Microsoft Web site. Double-click the appropriate executable file from Step 9d to start the Windows installer.
  11. Visit www.kodak.com/go/easysharesw, and install the latest version of EasyShare software.

----------------------------------------------
In case the above doesnt work.......

To reinstall the Windows Installer, rename the damaged Windows Installer files, and then reinstall the Windows Installer. To do so:

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER, where Drive is the drive where Windows is installed and where %Windir% is the folder where Windows is installed:

attrib -r -s -h drive:\%Windir%\system32\dllcache

For example, type
attrib -r -s -h c:\windows\\system32\dllcache

At the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line:

ren msi.dll msi.old
ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old
ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old

At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER.

Restart your computer.

Update the Windows Installer files on your hard disk to the latest version.

Thank you for your timely response, 8slash4.  I will get on your advice right away and get back to you tomorrow for certain.  Again, thank you!  KAPNJACK <signed>
Hello, 8slash4.  Forgive me for not getting back to you in a timely manner as I said I would.  This is my first foray into the EE venue and I was disoriented as to how to repond to you.  I did so from your EE email, but of course that did not work, so here goes again.  Your response commands me to HIGHLY laud you for your specifically detailed and easy to read directions on how to implement my Kodak ES DL as they relate to that damnable 14x20x0x error message!  Unfortunately, I was not able to be successful after multiple attempts.  The bottom line is that my PC said that the files you wanted me to access were not in my OS.  As you concluded, the last suggestion was to go to MS and DL the latest W installer.  Well, the MS response was that the service pack 3 version of my XP Media Edition already had the latest W installer ( v 3.1 EULA ) and there was no need to install this update and it was not possible to install the update!   I do not know for sure that my W installer is working.  I do know that I can download SOME software ( like EE and MS and my Lexmark All-in-One Center ) but not Kodak ES.  For what it is worth, when I attempt to DL Adobe Reader 910 I get the failure message: If you are in safe mode ( I am not ) the DL will not run.  Your W installer is refusing the application ( I do not know ).  8slash4, thank you again for your help. And, additionally, you indeed educated me to know my HP Pavilion more extensively.  If you can aid me further, I would welcome and  appreciate that.  Sincerely.....  KAPNJACK
Can you please give me the details of your Operating System, the service pack and the hardware you are using, so that i can assist you further.
Thank you, 8slash4, wonderful to hear from you again!  Here is the data you requested: MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP MEDIA CENTER EDITION VERSION 2002 SERVICE PACK 3.  HP PAVILION (a1519h, desk top) - INTEL (R) - PENTIUM (R) 4CPU 3.0 GHz - 3.00 GHz, 1.93 GB of RAM - Physical Address.  This child REALLY appreciates your concern for me!  Sincerely.....  KAPNJACK
Ok please try finding the three files in the c:\windows\system directory, instead of c:\windows\system32\dllcache and try doign the rest of the process again from start.
If you get an error, please post a screenshot of it so that we can help you better.
Roger that above.  Will get back to you today and Thank You a bunch.........  Kapnjack
Still cannot find the files you are directing me to.  Here are the results of my search for your C:\windows\system directory.  In fact, C:\windows\system32\dllcache is not listed.  Be assured there are no hidden files... all are open. The saga continues.......  KAPNJACK

This might be a little noobish, but did you search the whole of C Drive, and did you search for "  *msi*.*  ". Just try this and let me know what you get with screenshots again. I'm sorry for asking for so much.
ALL of your suggestions are appreciated....  no "noobishness" at all.  Many thanks for your concerns!  Now, on to your directions I go and TALLY HO (a little rhyme there).
Here are some more screenshots.  I am needing a more specific talk -through on the cmd procedure, keeping in mind that I have no Kodak ES software on a disk.  I HAVE to use your cmd directions to prompt me thru the three "ren" lines that you wanted me to type so I can hopefully "fix" my W Installer.  Hey!  The screenshots/ attach below is KAPUT!!!  I will try later.

If I understand things correctly about EE's attachment procedures, I cannot send you anymore screenshots until I hear back from you on the last batch I sent ( because that batch is maxed out ).    Am I correct ?  If so, I'll just wait to hear from you.
I am out of town at the moment and i am messaging through my cell phone. Please give me till the end of the day to respond. Thank you for your patience.
Roger that........ THANK YOU VERY MUCH.  I have no success sending you the last three screenshots because I keep getting this message....... ( The extension of the uploaded file is not in the list of accepted extensions ).  These last three are no different than the first eleven.  I am puzzled over this predicament!
Ok i found out the problem. Your version of windows needs a seperate path. Follow the new instructions:

To reinstall the Windows Installer, rename the damaged Windows Installer files, and then reinstall the Windows Installer. To do so:

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER, where Drive is the drive where Windows is installed and where %Windir% is the folder where Windows is installed:

attrib -r -s -h drive:\%Windir%\system32\

At the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line:

ren msi.dll msi.old
ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old
ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old

At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER.

Restart your computer.

Update the Windows Installer files on your hard disk to the latest version.

In case this gives an error, do a search for  msi*.* and rename files i have highlighted in the screenshot. And after that please download the latest MS Installer and install it. Your problem should be fixed.

A tiny mistake again in these following lines

For example, type
attrib -r -s -h c:\windows\\system32\

Make it:
attrib -r -s -h c:\windows\system32\
Thank you again and Roger all of that.  Gosh, you really work hard on my behalf....  REMARKABLE!  There are lot of domestic chores for me to do today, but I will get on your directions and recommendations as soon as possible.  TALLY HO.
Gee Whiz!  Still, no luck. See attachments. Would you tell me EXACTLY what to type following the initial or first prompt?  After that, your directions are very clear to me and I can go from there, but the beginning has me confused.  As you can see, I have to be typing the wrong entry and not knowing what I am doing incorrectly.  Sorry to burden you, I must be trying your patience, eh?

You seem to have skipped the correction i made,

Type this in the command prompt:
------------------------------------------
attrib -r -s -h c:\windows\system32\

After that at the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ren msi.dll msi.old
ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old
ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old

Restart your computer.

Update the Windows Installer files on your hard disk to the latest version.

MAKE SURE YOU FIRST GO TO   c:\windows\system32\
Thank you for your continuing persistence and patience.  This is what happens when I carefully follow your latest directions:  First, I open the command window, and what I see is what you see in Friday's screenshot one (1) above, with the pulsing curser.  As you instruct clearly, I then type in: attrib -r -s -h c:\windows\system32\ and click ENTER.  Then what I see is what you see in the Saturday 05-23 screenshot attached herein with the resulting message:  File not found.  This happens EVERY TIME I do this sequence.  Bottom line is that I cannot even begin to implement the three "rens".  Also, I am totally confused about your last comment:  MAKE SURE YOU FIRST GO TO   c:\windows\system32\ .  I need for you to walk me through THAT.  I don't know how to do it, where to do it and when to do it .  I hope you have a nice Memorial Day weekend and I look forward to your next comment.

My Bad! I should have explained it properly. Follow these steps:

1) Follow all the steps shown in the screenshot EXACTLY

2) Update the Windows Installer files on your hard disk to the latest version.

3) You should be hopefully done by God's grace ;)

Nooooooooo, nothing you do is "bad".  We all make mistakes once in awhile.  Before I get to your comment today, I must share a mistake I made and that is:  I neglected to tell you that the original Kodak ES DL failure message that brought you and I together ( 14x20x0x ) changed to the present ( 1304x17x4252799284x ).  This happened as you began to assist me.  Sorry about that, perhaps by not informing you WHEN this change of Kodak EM occurred I could have then better helped you to help me.  Additionally I have one more thing to share with you:  I awoke at 0600 HRS with a jolt as I figured out your ( MAKE SURE YOU FIRST GO TO   c:\windows\system32\ )  I do that EVERY TIME I turn on or restart my PC.  Now that is verified in the active cmd window title, no?  Nowww, to your comment received today.........
The 1304x17x4252799284x is a .NET framework error.
To resolve this error condition:

1. Open Add/Remove Programs:
*
WINDOWS XP Operating Systems: Select Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
 *
WINDOWS XP Classic Operating Systems: Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs

2. Select Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

3. Click Change/Remove.

4. Select Repair, then click Next.

5. Go to EASYSHARE Software Downloads and download the latest version(http://www.kodak.com/go/easysharedownload)
Roger that, on your directions of the day!  AND, as you say, by the Grace of God, and God is good....  we wil finally be SUCCESSFUL.  Oh, I PRESENTLY have an EVEN LATER version of Windows Installer in my PC ( 4.5 Redistributable ).  I was advised by MS support that this is the most current installer for my OS and it has worked for all of my software DL's EXCEPT Kodak!!!!  Okay, for what that was worth to you, and NOW I am off to executing your instructions.  TALLY HO.
Well, 8slash4, God is obviously very busy today and needs to put off helping us until later.  I think He's got his hands full with the Memorial Day weekend.  Hey, Danica came in second in the INDY 500 and Helio ran away with first.  Now is that cool or what?  Okay... the attachment shows my one success and the four failures.  Do I have to do these five entries in the order you listed them?  I tried two and three many times and did not attempt three and four at all because I thought sequencing was critical.  Maybe God will available tomorrow.  I hope so because I am getting cross-eyed doing those command prompts!  Also, if I want to back up while typing in the cmd prompt because of an error I made, how do you do that?  My typing curser goes backspace only and I cannot place it within my text to correct errors that I discovered.  I sure wish I could correct "bad stuff" without erasing the "good" stuff.
Only-the-first-item-enters.--All.JPG
Dude, you are doing it all wrong, dont type 2-3 commands at the same time. Do it exactly as i have shown in the screenshots. And after each command press ENTER
Put these 5 commands with an enter after each line:

cd c:\windows\system32\

attrib -r -s -h

ren msi.dll msi.old

ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old

ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old
THESE and I repeat, THESE particular directions were foolproof... FOOL, meaning me!  WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!!!!!  I had NO cmd\prompt experience before I met you and now, many thanks to you, your persistence, your patience and your commitment to this 70 year old child...  I am FINALLY accomplished on this technique.  Okay, now I will get back to you on the Kodak ES DL asap.  Obviously, God was not busy today and got some Grace to us, eh?
Kodak Easyshare Software version 7.1.0 STILL will not download.  The same and VERY OLD error message: 1304x17x4252799284x continues to prevail.
8slash4, is everything okay with you and yours?  I have not heard from you in a while.  KAPNJACK  <signed>
Am out of town, so couldnt reply. I have told you every possible method known to me, and the only alternatives i see are the following:

1) Re-install the operating system, since its obvious some of the files are corrupt
2) Contact Kodak Help (http://www.kodak.com/go/contact)
3) Tell me what you use the software for, so that i can suggest an alternative.
Glad you're safe and sound!  Thanks for responding.  Be assured that I will take your above alternatives to heart.  Again, I surely appreciate your dedication, persistence and patience with me in trying your best to solve this problem.  To answer your question as to what I use the Kodak ES software for...  I have used it flawlessly since 2004 and it is a GREAT product to remove images from my camera and elaborately edit them and store them in my PC.  I can upload these pictures as albums into the Online Kodak Gallery for archiving and sharing them with friends and associates.  Things went wrong after I did a recovery operation AND Kodak is the ONLY software affected.  It is so complex that even Kodak has been unable to solve this problem.!  I will keep in touch with you as I  carry on.
If you'd like to avoid having to use that bulky Easyshare program, Kodak includes connectivity software in it's installation that may act as a stand alone (i.e. you can see and manipulate your pictures in Explorer)

To see Kodak's help file on this, paste this address in your Address bar in Internet Explorer -

C:\Program Files\Kodak\Kodak EasyShare software\ReadMeCamera.htm

Or, if you've intalled it on a different hard drive or location

[Insert Your Drive Here]:\Program Files\Kodak\Kodak EasyShare software\ReadMeCamera.htm

So now you have just installed the necessary drivers, not the software. You can also use the Windows Photo Manager or Windows Explorer to copy the photos from your camera onto your computer.
The free software which i use supports any camera in the world is called IrfanView which Imports\Edits\Manages photos without any problems. Just try using this software without trying to install the connectivity software, it will most probably work without a glitch.
Thanks for sharing.  I will check out ALL of this and get back to you ASAP.  I have a lot of domestic chores to do today, but maybe later in the day.  Tomorrow for sure.  Hey, I am in Alaska...  where are you?
First of all and again, many, many thanks to you for your participation in addressing my problem.  Your dedication, persistence, mentorship and patience were appreciated more than you will ever know.  Now I share with you that Kodak self helps and telephone and chat sessions were not successful.  Your feeling that the Kodak ES software is "bulky" I respectfully disagree with.  I found Irfan to be as you touted it to be and I am grateful for you sharing that very interesting option.  Sadly, I was unable to have success with your final instructions as they relate to reinstalling the OS.  Kodak engineers finally insisted that my problems were not with their software, but with MS Windows.  I called MS, and coupled with your teachings, we solved our ES problem with an upgrade to Windows XP Media Center Edition, Service pack 3B v 5.1.2600 ( Professional / Developers level ).  All of my 6000+ treasured images are now safe and secure and I carry on without issues.  Sincerely....  TALLY HO....  KAPNJACK.
If you feel any of my answers helped you, please select one of them as the right answer. That would give us points for taking out time to solve the problems. Thank you :)
Hi, Slash!  I am confused here... being a rookie at this EE stuff.  I awarded you a total of 250 points and was acknowledged by EE that was indeed the case, but there would be a waiting period for clearance and closure.  How come you were not noticed of that?

Copy that, Slash.  Okay, I am gonna contact EE and see what the heck is going on here with the 250 points I awarded you for all your help.  I will be back with you ASAP.  TALLY HO!
Hey, Slash, I finally..... with EE's telephone help.... became knowledgeable as to how points are awarded.  So the bottom line is that you now have 500 points!  Good for you!  Thanks for all your help and my best regards to you.  TALLY HO........  KAPNJACK.
