I was troubleshooting a Windows 2003 SBS Domain controller VPN issue having a a problem  mapping drives to DFS shares . A Microsoft Support Engineer disabled the IPSEC service because I don't need it. Now SBS System Monitor is sending email alerts saying IPSEC service is not running , network funtionality may be impaired. Does SBS require IPSEC to be enabled?

IPsec is not requiered only if :

- you do not use any built in VPN functionalty in SBS other then PPTP
- you dont use IPsec in conjunction with Windows firewall to further secure packets.

If your SBS is behind a good SPI firewall you and you don't use the vpn other then PPTP you don't have to worry.
