Hi - I have created a dataset using the dataset designer in VS 3.5 SP 1
When I try to add additional fill methods, or preview data I cant.  I think it is because the mydataset.Designer.vb file is under mydataset.vb file as you will see in the attached jpg.  How can I get the dataset straightened out?

Thanks Kim

There isn't any file attachment.  It sounds like you might have a problem with the file association in the .vbproj file.

  <ItemGroup>

    <Compile Include="DataSet1.Designer.vb">

      <AutoGen>True</AutoGen>

      <DesignTime>True</DesignTime>

      <DependentUpon>DataSet1.xsd</DependentUpon>

    </Compile>

...

  <ItemGroup>

    <None Include="DataSet1.xsc">

      <DependentUpon>DataSet1.xsd</DependentUpon>

    </None>

    <None Include="DataSet1.xsd">

      <SubType>Designer</SubType>

      <Generator>MSDataSetGenerator</Generator>

      <LastGenOutput>DataSet1.Designer.vb</LastGenOutput>

    </None>

    <None Include="DataSet1.xss">

      <DependentUpon>DataSet1.xsd</DependentUpon>

    </None>

Thank you for answering,  I solved the problem by copying the generated code from the

designer.vb
.xssx
.xsc

files into notepad - deleted the dataset and added  a new dataset with the same name, and then pasted in the code from notepad and this worked.  I did not know about the information in the vbproj file.    I will look into a backup of the project which I took before I made the changes.  I am sure by poking around in there I will learn a lot.  That is one of the problems with using the designers in VS,  I did not learn what is going on behind the curtain -

I am awarding you the points - because I did learn something new - which I am sure will come in handy.

Thanks you again.
