Using Visual Studio 2005, I have created a new website (not project) on the webserver.   It's working fine.

Now I added a server connection to a database on the sql 2005server.

In the past, with VB projects, I've been able to create a datasource for the tables and create table adaptors.  However, when I click on the datasource tab everything is dimmed out and it has no commands available.  Can I not use datasources on a web application?

Thanks!

Yes, but you will now need to create a project as a data access layer the content on that web site.

Have a look at : http://www.asp.net/learn/data-access/?lang=cs

They have a lot of good examples, particularly lesson 1 - creating a data access layer. Then they have some good examples further down of how it actually works - might like to jump straight into one of those if you have a bit of experience.
