Backup Exec 12.5 Error

Hi,

I am running backup exec and i get the following error:

Error category    : System ErrorsError             : e00084f4 - An unknown error has occurred.

Backup- \\AUTONOMY\C: Storage device "DINC Backup Folder on Server Kang" reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported:
An unexpected network error occurred.
V-79-57344-34036 - An unknown error has occurred.

Any idea how I can resolve this issue. It is backing up data to a server at the moment but is failing and is starting to get annoying when you cannot resolve this issue. Any help will be appreciated.

Its not a cache issue as mine is enabled.

Hi intolux,

I have the same problem :-(
I was going to update to version 12.5 to see if that would help, but I won't bother now.

A similar question was asked, but the answer was vague, so I posted a discussion comment asking for more information. Hope an answer is coming and that it resolves our problems.

Hi intolux,
Could it be a rights issue?

Does the user account that the BE service is running as have access to the folder you are trying to back the data up to?

If it is a Tape, has it been set to not be overwitten for a set period of time?

Well I have now created a new folder and redirected the backup to be saved into this folder which I know has all rights to read and write.

I will find out if there are errors 2moro.

Ok - Got a number of failed messages again but this time it was less but random errors. One is as follows:

Backup- \\BACKUP01.#######.local\F: Storage device "DINC Backup Folder on Server Kang" reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported:
Not enough server storage is available to process this command.
V-79-57344-34036 - An unknown error has occurred.

There is space on the server but I am still getting this error.

Any idea??

OK,

A quick google search of the error message points to a number of possible solutions, all of them random and vague!

One simply recommends re-booting the server and that seemed to have resolved it for one person.  If the machine has not been bounced for a while I would suggest trying that first.

If that does not work I would suggest trying to back up a small file from the BE server to the local drive on the BE server and see if that works. If it does then its a case of step by step tests to find the problem.

Thanks for the reply back - I will schedule a restart to happen with the server as it is used very often where it holds all the files.

As soon as this has been done I will let you know if there error happens. If so will try an example with a small file size and check if I get the same error aswell.

Another error I had got is:

V-79-57344-34070 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\TECHY\Shadow?Copy?Components". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot provider error (0xE0008516): Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them. Check if files were deleted or renamed.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

Is this referring to low memory???

Do you have the BE client application installed and running on the machine you are trying to back up across the network?
