Open a second PDF in same window

I upgraded one of my users to Acrobat pro9.0.  When he has a PDF open and opens a second one, instead of opening in the same window, it opens a new window.  I tried to tell him to suck it up, but no.  He wants it to open in the same window.  I've tried the other suggestions of going into the internet preferences of Acrobat and deselecting "display PDF n browser", and also "open cross-document links in same window" to no avail.  Any other ideas?

I am having the same problem and just spoke with Adobe support. I was told this feature is not available in Acrobat 9 but apparently is an option in version 8 (Edit/Preferences/Document). Also, I was told I may use my Acrobat 9 volume license to downgrade to version 8. Now I have to get on the phone with them again to request the media since the license for 9 did not work with the one version 8 disk I have (came with the ScanSnap).
